The newly updated Dustland Runner litepaper provides users with all the Dustland, DOSE and Fitness Metaverse information they could need.

Hello Dustcaps.

Some of you may know me, but for those who don’t: I’m Marc McGinley, Dustland Game Director, and I’m here to try and answer some questions that have popped up quite a bit recently.

A lot of Dustland players and DOSE token holders have expressed curiosity about the inner workings of Dustland, the game, the upcoming Operation Ape, the tokenomics of DOSE and anything else that has to do with the Fitness Metaverse. I understand that you may want more detail about something you might be devoting a lot of time and energy to. For that reason we’ve collected all that info in our newly released, updated Dustland litepaper.

The litepaper, available on the Dustland Runner website, is a concise, easy-to-understand (meaning we’ve left the denser legal and development jargon aside for now) breakdown of what Dustland is, why it’s designed the way it is, changes we’ve made to the rewards system — and especially what that means for you. But I understand you may not have time to read the whole paper right now, so below is a recap of the key points.

Scaling DOSE

Part of my job as Game Director indeed falls outside the bounds of gameplay, and Dustland Runner, as part of an ecosystem — a metaverse — demands we all consider what goes on outside the game itself. No metaverse will thrive without growth, and so that’s why we’ve committed to creating a more dynamic token system, one that can scale up as more and more users come to Dustland.

The total supply of DOSE is fixed at 5 billion, of which 1 billion tokens are allocated to game rewards of Dustland. So like money in the real world, I’ve had to be careful of inflation and find a way to ensure we don’t run out of rewards for all players at every level. The system is built to spread tokens out over a long period of time — which also means players who came on board during the Alpha stage began earning their tokens when demand was low to start. For lack of a better word, I wanted to reward those early players for their support — and for their patience during the testing stages.

We won’t ever have runaway inflation, and incoming players will be managed with cost sinks for a positive demand versus supply imbalance; more demand is always advantageous.

Because of this dynamic system, it gives me the room to create innovative, fun ways to let players boost their characters and claim a bigger share of the prize pool. Dustland Runner is about your character and your fitness first: a stronger character means access to better challenges, more activity, and more rewards. Growth — for the game, for characters, for players, — is our goal and it remains my main philosophy when adding game features, missions and functionalities.

Incentivising wider participation

Another important part of the system is to create more rewards pools, just like the Operation Ape side missions and their special rewards, and to bring new players to Dustland. It’s a major step in scaling up, and I’m always looking for ways to attract new players.

More reward pools mean players are encouraged and incentivised to take part in different activities and maybe try something they wouldn’t normally. It’s also a way to ensure those new players are rewarded for their work. Existing, longer-term players are exempted from these new player-focused pools because they have their own pool, at a higher tier, which is a reward in itself for being early adopters. The side benefit here is that newcomers will have incentive to move to a higher tier themselves.

Managing the pools

Of course, all of us here at Dustland will be keeping an eye on the numbers as time goes on, and with advice from the rest of the development team we’ll adjust or add new prize pools when we all feel it’s necessary. But the one thing to bear in mind is that the more powerful a character you create for yourself in Dustland, the more rewards will come your way.

Ultimately, the system as it is and all its various incentives is designed to support the fundamental point of the Fitness Metaverse: to get people to be active and have fun playing a great game they’re invested in. And I think this is the way to do that.

I hope that clears up a few things for everyone, but don’t be shy about reaching out with questions or comments. All of us are always open to any ways to make Dustland a better experience.

Cheers,

Marc
