Dutch DPA Offers Help to Organisations

The Dutch privacy watchdog — Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP), has offered its help with assisting organisations in their preparations for the implementation of the General Data Protection Act (AVG) coming into effect in May 2018. The AP noted the areas of the greatest importance which should be closely monitored by organisations. The new law will give more control to the people over their personal data and it will provide the AP will more power (e.g. imposing fines). Moreover, the AP started doing impact assessment of the new legislation and is calling for more attention to privacy and data protection in healthcare.

Italian DPA Issues GDPR Guidelines Document

The Italian Data Protection Authority — Garante has released its first set of guidelines on the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) following the recent opinions of the Article 29 Working Party. The Guidelines deal with the new changes coming in May 2018 and also take into consideration the current Italian data protection legal framework, namely the Italian Data Protection Code and the Garante’s jurisprudence. Most importantly the Guidelines deal with the notion of consent, legitimate interest of the data controller, information notice, rights of the data subjects, the Right to be forgotten and limitation of processing, right to data portability, etc.

Bavarian DPA Issues a GDPR Questionnaire

Last week the Bavarian Data Protection Authority published a questionnaire to help companies assess their level of implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). According to the DPA the questionnaire was sent to 150 randomly selected companies from Bavaria region of Germany. The question topics contain data processing activities, inventories and privacy by design, individuals’ rights, etc. The DPA noted that it will be increasing its investigations after May 2018, and that this questionnaire provides an indication of how the investigations will be conducted.

GDPR Goes Into Effect a Year From Now

25th of May 2018 is a much anticipated date when the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect. Most importantly this is the date when noncompliant businesses will start facing potential fines. In a recent blog post the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) has gathered the most important resources related to the GDPR that may come handy with organisation’s compliance.
