The notion that mainstream media does not have a pronounced bias towards leftists and Democrats is laughable I hope you agree, and certainly the journalistic ethics of outlets like CNN, the New York Times and other leading outlets have been guilty of producing skewed or fake news outside of anything Trump related this past generation. President Trump demonstrating he can effectively fight, manipulate, and talk past the media is not a new dynamic in recent presidencies. One would point to how Obama, W., Slick Willy, and Reagan all took on the media directly or through surrogates. President Bush 41 is a true patriot and a clearheaded leader in times of crisis, yet the media largely stuck it to him and his administration.
If Buckley could overlook the blood-n-guts ethno-nationalism of Vlad Tepes I think he would take President Trump’s flaying of the unrepentantly biased mainstream media in good cheer. Moreover, the polite norms of a detached Beltway establishment would be hardly as important to him than is supposed by some.
Furthermore, Buckley made peace with the direction President Reagan took conservatism by and large, and those NeverTrumpers who really think he would not be thrilled, privately at least, by the humongous hunk of humble pie President Trump served up to the Democrats, leftist professional intelligentsia, mainstream media, and college snowflakes just by winning is to miss the measure of the man. Faced with neoliberal Hillary Clinton, beholden to an ever left-veering constituency or a wildcard candidate promising to take the biggest whack possible out of the unelected administrative state, I highly doubt Buckley himself would have gone with her in the general election. Obviously the Republican primary would gave been another matter all together.
