With specialization often comes tunnel vision. When your expertise is limited to, say, art, level design, performances, or whatever, you’ll eventually convince yourself that it’s the most important thing in the game. People become biased toward their own expertise. It makes decision making a lot more complicated. More often than not, the loudest voice wins, even if it doesn’t make much sense.

You nailed it; and the reason I know this is because as soon as I read it I thoughts, “OMG! That’s me in my profession!” This simple, yet profound revelation has caused me to sit down in the theater of my mind and watch ALL.THE.WAYS my stove-piping has stymied my professional development as well as hindered my orgainzation’s growth. Looks like I have some introspection to do.
