Oh Snap! Discord Spam Attack Leaves Gnus.AI Scratching It’s Head

Who would have thought? Even DeFi projects aren’t safe from the trolls of the digital world. Gnus.AI found that out the hard way, following a recent Discord hack which left them with a cool $1.27M in losses. Coincidentally, that’s almost the amount I spend on coffee every month. Just kidding… or am I?

The Sleight Of Hack

In order to commemorate this calamity,I’d like to propose a brand-new term, ‘The Sleight Of Hack’. It’s when a hacker slips into a system so smoothly that the victims hardly have a clue until the damage is done. Well, could anyone now tell me how a hacker minting 100 million fake tokens is so off the radar?

The Blame Game:

We can all agree that forgetting to lock your front door is just an invitation for some shady character to take a five finger discount on your prized possessions. Much the same Gnus.AI should have put a better lock on their digital door, especially when they’re dealing with people’s investments.

But here’s the question we should all be asking: Is it Gnus.AI who fell asleep at the wheel? Or is it Discord that left the gate wide open? Should we hold Gnus.AI accountable for not recognizing security lapses? Or Discord for providing a platform that was an easypeasy lemon squeezy for a hacker to attack?

Future Making Dose of Healthy Paranoia:

For those of you still naive enough to believe that decentralization is the silver bullet that will make all online problems disappear, here’s your wake up call. DeFi is not just rainbows and sunshine. It doesn’t matter how watertight you think your security protocols are, it only takes one brilliant, albeit malevolent, mind to pop that bubble. So build your fortress, but don’t forget to double check the locks.

I hope Gnus.AI can find a way to right the ship, but in the mean time, this is a clear reminder to the rest of us. We need to start marinating ourselves in a healthy dose of paranoia, because in the DeFi jungle, it’s eat or be eaten. And to the team at Gnus.AI, might I suggest a decent encrypted messaging service next time?
