Finding the Sacred in Daily Life Depends on One Thing.

I’m not a very religious person. Or at least I keep telling myself that. It’s probably a lie. I do read a lot of religious books, and I do spend a lot of time trying to quiet my mind and connect with something larger outside myself.

But I don’t wake up early on Sundays. Or Saturdays. Or any other day that I’m not absolutely required to do so.

I don’t think any of those religious books that I read is particularly better than all the others at telling me how to find God or Joy or Peace or Oneness or Spirit.

I don’t think I have a Soul in any permanent sense.

But I do have an ego. That’s for sure. And I need to get it out of the way.

So I’m borrowing an idea from David Cain’s amazing Raptitude blog, and conducting an online experiment in order to keep myself accountable.

I’m challenging myself to notice the moments and opportunities for deeper connection in daily life. For some reason, my reflections on these moments tend to turn into prayers.

Every day, I am posting those prayers online. And I’m asking you to help me out by keeping me accountable. Because finding the sacred in daily life depends on just one thing: Looking for it before looking to satisfy my own preferences, judgments, and ego.

Easier said than done. So thanks for your help. And if the prayers are useful or interesting to you as well, all the better. Perhaps we can be partners on this path.
