The Delhi High Court has mandated the Department of Drugs Control in Delhi to conduct weekly inspections, ensuring the proper documentation of any instances involving counterfeit Oxytocin use or possession. These cases are to be officially recorded under Section 12 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 18(a) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone” or “bonding hormone,” is produced in the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary glands of mammals during intimate moments like sex, childbirth, breastfeeding, and social connections. Operating as both a hormone and a neurotransmitter in the brain, oxytocin plays a crucial role in fostering social behaviors, strengthening bonds, and eliciting emotional responses.
