Episode 23 — Embrace the Threshing
Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the LORD is with you!” — Judges 6:11–12, NLT
Daily Walk 365 | Daily one-minute meditations on God’s word.
Gideon’s story is an inspiring reminder that anyone can be called to do great things, no matter their background or current circumstances. When Gideon was hiding from his enemies, threshing wheat on the floor of the winepress, he must have felt like a far cry from a mighty hero. But God saw something in Gideon that he didn’t see in himself, and he called him to lead the Israelites to freedom. Gideon was hesitant at first, but after God reassured him of His power and love, Gideon found the courage to step up and do what needed to be done. Not only did he lead the Israelites to victory, but he also became a symbol of hope and courage for future generations.
We all go through difficult times in our lives, but it’s important to remember that these difficulties are often necessary in order to help us grow and mature. Just as a farmer needs to thresh grain in order to separate the wheat from the chaff, so too do we need to go through our own personal threshing floors in order to allow God to separate what is holding us back from what will help us move forward. It can be easy to complain about the size of the obstacles we face, but if we embrace the threshing floor process, we will come out stronger and more confident, with new opportunities and friendships waiting for us on the other side. Don’t give up when times are tough — remember that you are going through the threshing floor because God is preparing you for something better.
Today’s Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your refining process in my life. I know that the threshing floor is not meant to harm me, but instead is used to bring me up to a better station. I believe that You are removing the chaff from my life and purifying me so that I can be promoted to levels I could never reach on my own. I know that the process of refinement can be painful, but I also know that it is necessary in order to produce the best possible results. I trust you, Father, to lead me through this process and to use it for my good and Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
