Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you found the article valuable! To answer your question, I would say getting on a publication is vital in the beginning — at least with how Medium is set up at the moment.
This doesn’t mean you have to get on a huge publication. Lower to mid-tier publications are a great way to get your foot in the door on Medium. Check out how long the publication has been around though beforehand given how many pop up and fizzle out.
Once you have a list of 3,4, 10 or however many it takes, reach out to the editor with a link to your completed work (email, Tweet, etc). If you don’t have that much traction/traffic yet, give a short bio of your professional career to validate why the publication should publish your work.
