Lessons To Learn

Today I finished reading an incredible novel, ‘Five People You Meet In Heaven’ by Mitch Albom and as I sat there thinking of the story and it’s meaning, I was hit by something familiar but unwelcome. The thought that I have so much more to learn.

In my almost 27 years on this Earth, I am haunted by the thought that I haven’t done enough, that my time is running out and I haven’t made an impact on this world or the people in it. This book speaks to that, but instead he is an 83yr old man. Still, he meets five people who showed him that his life did have meaning, though he believed it did not. That he impacted and was impacted on by others. It shows that all our stories are inter-twined like vines growing since the beginning of time.

It teaches us that despite how strongly we may want to deny that our lives are impacted on by strangers and vice versa, it is and that gives our lives a deeper meaning. So you, reading this post, may be affected by my words. You may need a reminder that no matter how small you think you are, or how insignificant your time in this life may seem to you…YOU ARE MAKING AN IMPACT! You have changed someone’s life. Someone has died so you may live. Someone opened a business so you may have a job. Someone got married or had sex with another so you may be born. Someone may be watching you or reading your words and decided to continue living. You may have saved 100 lives, you may have made 50, 000 people happier.

The impression we make could be small, big, positive or negative. It has different shapes and shades. It can be overt or covert. It is real and continues to be, even when we draw our last breath.

So on a scale or 1 to 5, I rate this book a 4.9 only because I wanted more! Do I recommend you read it, HELL YES!
