Why I Chose Smore
This was harder than I thought it would be, but I’m excited for the future. I’ve never left a job before and have thoroughly enjoyed my career. Working for ParentLink, and then for Blackboard, has been rewarding for me. I was able to work with very smart people who helped us to accomplish amazing things. But the chance to join Smore was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
In my new role, I get to work in School PR again, which is what I want to do. I’m passionate about the work and the people who do it. And I’m passionate about Smore’s product and the impact communications and parent and community engagement can have on the lives of students. I’ve been missing School PR dearly over the past 18 months.

Smore’s culture also hit me hard, in a good way. I joked after reviewing their cultural documentation that the statements look like something I would have written, only better. Here are a few that especially resonated with me.
We build things we’re proud of.
- At Smore we’re here to build solid solutions that help real people who are doing real work. If we don’t want to share it with the world, we shouldn’t work on it or put it out there.
We’re efficient and effective.
- We don’t waste time, we work on what’s important.
We make sure Smore is a good deal.
- We want to build a premium product, that is also a fantastic deal for our customers. This means we don’t apologize for charging money, we don’t hide it and we don’t “take advantage” of our customers.
We take care of our people.
- Our team, our customers, our community and our market. We want to be successful and generous, to give back and share our resources and our experience.
Smore is intentional about culture and purpose, and this is authentic. I see it in the work, in how they interact and what they care about. This team wants to be partners, so the necessary time is invested to make that happen. Being a “good deal” to customers is a priority, so there is a focus on the importance of constantly providing more value. Most importantly, time isn’t wasted staying busy — time is spent on work that will be impactful. It isn’t just about doing things, it’s about doing the right things the right way.
I’m excited about this next chapter in my career — the opportunities it provides me for personal and professional growth — and the opportunities it provides to help Smore fulfill its vision and mission. Things are going to move fast and change fast, but that is how the world works today. Being with Smore allows me to meet new and changing demands and help the people and professions I love.
I’m ready.
