Yes, . . . I can’t quite wrap all of this up in a neat theoretical frame, but you have identified the two main contradictions I have been grappling with — (1) the insularity of academia vs the openness of tech culture, and (2) the peaceful (symbiotic?) coexistence of a techno-capitalist oligarchy with labor force of programmers who, in creating a parallel open-source economy, seem to be acting like 21st-century anarcho-syndicalists (but without any self-conscious ideology).
