ATX Web Designs. From Our CEO: Top 3 List of Values Which I Live and Lead By

I recently read the book FROM THE CEO’S PERSPECTIVE by Teri Citterman. One of the things that strongly stood out to me were the values that these great CEO’s lead by.

Since about the age of 9, I’ve played in organized sports. From that age, all the way to being a professional athlete, I’ve always been in a leadership position; such as being the captain of the team. I’ve never taken this position lightly and am very adamant about leading by example.

Just as in sports, in business there are values that you live and lead by as a leader, which creates an energy that spreads throughout your organization. These values become the foundation of your entire company.

“And nothing great comes from a weak foundation. But establishing a strong foundation, will allow the most amazing ideas to come to life.”

Here’s my top 3 list of values which I live and lead by, in anticipation to spread that same energy to my team:

1) DON’T JUST WORK HARD, BUT WORK HARD WITH A PURPOSE

Every one claims how hard they work, but if you don’t have purpose for what you’re doing, then your a hamster in a hamster wheel. Going fast, but not going anywhere at all.

Purpose in anything you’re doing allows you to get up every morning and not go through the motions. Doesn’t mean you won’t have a few of those days that you’re not feeling it, but it does mean that work will hardly feel like work.

With purpose, the drive for what you do won’t be based on hours, a portfolio, or even dollar signs — but on you knowing why you’re here on earth, and the position you’re in allows you to fulfill that purpose.

2) KEEP LEARNING. KEEP MOVING. KEEP GROWING.

“A body in motion stays in motion” — Newton’s First Law of Motion.

This not only applies to your physical body, but your mind as well. Once you’re out of school doesn’t mean that it’s time to stop learning.

Just because you’ve tasted a small or big part of success isn’t a reason for you stop leaning either. The more you learn the more you grow as a individual.

Keep your mind in motion by keeping it active from reading, learning a new skill or language, getting a mentor, or whatever fits you best. As long as it makes you think and keeps your mind fresh, new ideas will pour in like rain in the rain forest.

Keep your body active, as well. It’s scientifically proven that a healthy diet and regular exercise allows us, as human beings, to perform better at work (really at life in general).

Doesn’t have to be some extreme healthy eating or workout regime, but simply eating healthy foods and staying active in something does just fine.

3) HONESTY. INTEGRITY. MORALS. BE TRANSPARENT.

I always say that

“We’re setting new standards & raising the bar in the Austin Web Design & Digital Marketing Industry.”

Most of our current clients have been, for lack of better words, screwed over by some web design firm. And this ranges from family owned brick and mortar to our big corporate clients.

I’ve never wanted and never want that to be us.

We’re very straight forward with potential clients, long before they sign an agreement to work with us. I’m very transparent in letting companies know our exact processes.

We give references after presentations at sales meetings, and are always open to answering any questions or concerns potential clients may have.

Now, is there a possibility that it could backfire and they use it to bid around to other agencies? Sure. But as of now it has never affected us.

By me creating an atmosphere of honesty, integrity, morals, and transparency, not only to potential new clients, but individuals on our team as well, I can sleep great at night. Doing the right thing always gives me peace of mind… and peace of mind is pure gold to me.

There are many other values which I live and lead by, but these are my top 3.

It all begins with me. I understand that establishing this within our organization, and among our team has allowed us to have the fast and vast amount of success we’ve had thus far. It also gives us the opportunity to continue to grow much faster and much bigger.
