Prior to assuming his current role as the senior director and supervisory investment officer at the Department of Energy (DOE), Daniel Tobin served as a research associate for a private sector institution focused on energy and environmental advocacy. Today, Daniel Tobin brings nearly 20 years of experience in the industry to his position at the DOE, where he is responsible for underwriting renewable energy and energy infrastructure projects.

Though 2016 brought with it a rise in the level of American interest in politics, many individuals are still unclear about the roles and accomplishments of different branches of government, including the Department of Energy.

Since 1977, the DOE has conducted important research and made many important scientific developments and discoveries. Some of its accomplishments include sequencing a part of the human genome, advancing solar cell research, and developing the batteries that the US now uses to power its spacecraft. More recently, the DOE developed the first multi-national energy research center between the United States and China, and contributed to auto technology initiatives that resulted in the reduction of petroleum use. In 2016 the DOE was responsible in part for the discovery of two new elements, numbers 115 and 117, now known as moscovium (Mc) and tennessine (Ts).
