If a picture is worth a 1000 words then a 50 seconds video can explain exactly what your work is all about.
When we approached to the task of creating a concept video for SPOT we decided to convey the result of what life will look like when you get to save time for the things you love.
The 5 Challenges we faced during the process:
1. Low budget — As an early stage startup company with close to no money in the bank, we had to create the best quality at the lowest cost. Being the creative types, we couldn’t compromise the quality of the video so our solution was in the people around us. Actors, locations and filming support were achieved thanks to the huge hearts of our friends who volunteered to help.
2. Location — Being a global solution located in a very specific part of the world, we wanted the scene to appear as if it can happen anywhere in the world.
In order to achieve that, we had to find locations that have no language, signs or local elements attached to them. This limitation narrowed our choices in the best possible way.
3. 2 videos — At SPOT, we built our marketplace for services as a “mirror”, like two sides of the same coin. Our solution is based on the simple fact that clients and professionals complete each other.
Creating one movie for both sides felt like neither will get the special “spot” (get it?) they deserve. And so, we rose to the challenge of making each app its own concept video and having those videos behave like 2 sides of that same coin.
4. One shot — As if we hadn’t had enough challenges already, we decided to create each video in only one shot. Why make life easy with editing when we can recreate the same one-shot 30 times, hoping to be able to choose the most perfect one in the end? Choosing the more difficult method of shooting may have been more challenging the day of the shoot but saved us time and money in the scheme of things. We also felt that the smooth flow of our one shot videos delivered a deeper feeling of ease and tranquility which are the key benefits of our product.
5. One day — Filming outdoors in February is not an easy task. Finding the perfect sunny day + getting everyone available in up to 5 days notice is the pure joy of every producer. We would like to thank AccuWeather app for messing with us for almost 3 months with its “2 weeks forecast”. So incase you are as optimistic as we are- no one can predict the weather 2 weeks in advance, mid Feb. Believe us, we checked.
The good news and some bonus backstage stories:
We were amazed to see that just by looking at their thumbnails, you can tell which video is the concept to what app. SPOT is the light, fresh, Orange spark and PRO is light Blue, young and current.
We just later found out that Jonathan, the Creator of the videos, selected the specific hours of day to shoot each video based on the sun and the beautiful colors it will create, supporting our apps branding colors. Smart.
We searched for a narrator who will be the exact opposite of what you see, so your eyes and your ears can compliment each other.
After 120 V.O auditions, we chose our guy, the one who tells the stories of SPOT & SPOT PRO in a way we believe they’re meant to be told.
We are very excited to present you with SPOT & SPOT PRO Concept Videos premier.
Both videos were made with tons of help by friends and talented people.
