Zombies

My eyes were shut, all I could hear was the sound of nearby groaning… long drawn out groaning. I opened my eyes and I could see the end of humanity. People however, were still about, but they weren’t exactly people they were shells, mimicking their past selves — walking around, almost aimlessly; could it be? The zombie apocalypse?

No, I wouldn’t have to go scouring the Earth for a cure whilst trying to make sure I wasn’t ravaged to death by a zombie, the Internet wasn’t working in the office. (Close enough to being ravaged to death by a zombie, right?)

With almost everything being in the “cloud” — without an internet connection you are almost screwed and since some mobile networks have decided it would be great to charge users for mobile tethering, you end up asking yourself “Do I really need the internet to do this?” until you realise that almost everything you are coding uses a third-party API at some point.

This is when I realised, Internet providers need to slow down with trying to push a few extra megabits a second for a ridiculously high price and focus more on making sure that they are never down, from the phone line to the routers that they provide for “free” (Free either means it’s rubbish or the price of it is factored into the “setup” fee — the setup, by the way that a 12-year-old could do).
