LOS ANGELES — In addition to being delivered on pay-per-view and within the T-Mobile Arena itself, the battle between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will be also shown in approximately 400 movie theaters throughout the United States.

First reported by ESPN, Alvarez (49–1–1, 34 KOs) and Golovkin have been on a collision course for just under two years and will finally step into the ring against each other on September 16, on HBO PPV. The broadcast shown in theaters will be identical to the showing people will see in their homes. The price to watch in theaters was not disclosed, but it is expected that it would be less than the price tag of the in-home broadcast.

“The fight against Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 16 is one of the biggest fights of my career, and I am glad that all my loyal fans will have the opportunity to support me not only at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas but also in movie theaters across the country,” Alvarez said.

The bout, which will officially be at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds, will be for Golovkin’s (37–0, 33 KOs) IBF, IBO, WBA and WBC world titles. However, it is not yet clear if Alvarez will accept the WBC world title should he capture the victory, due to the tension that the 27-year-old has expressed with the sanctioning body which has been around since 1963. Nevertheless, Golovkin and his promoter have made it known that the undefeated fighter from Kazakhstan will officially defend the [WBC] title.

“I am looking forward to having the fans see the big drama show on the big screen,” Golovkin said. “It’s a great way to see this fight.”

Fans in the city of Las Vegas, who will not be able to see the fight in person, can still catch the historic event in various closed circuit locations.
