What is the rush? On reading and books being “too long”

Yes! I read so much more slowly than my wife but when a book is well-written I enjoy savoring the words, feeling them on my tongue even, then pondering how that sentence, paragraph, or page ties in with life as I understand it. Sometimes I simply admire the use of language and the unique expression of a thought. To me, reading quickly to “get through” a book is like running past a masterpiece artwork just to see more paintings in the museum.
