#TravelTuesday: Romantic Getaways Inspired by Maya Angelou, the Traveler

Yesterday’s Birthday Dedication!

“Travel Tuesday” has always been a favorite of mine. I get to learn about romantic far away paradises that keep my travel “to do” list longer than any other list. However, this week was a little different. I couldn’t simply post palm tree after palm tree and beach after beach knowing that my favorite writer’s birthday was being celebrated all over the world. See, her birthday isn’t just about honoring her legacy…Dr. Martin Luther King was also assassinated on Maya Angelou’s birthday. She and Dr. King were both friends and comrades in the ongoing struggle for human rights, and she agreed to go on a speaking tour with him after celebrating her birthday. It was her birthday celebration that ultimately saved her life, because she would’ve been right by his side on that fateful day!

Dr. Maya Angelou {I prefer “Queen Maya” 😊} has been my writing inspiration since childhood. More important than her being a poet, author, and dancer is her being a survivor who finally found her voice again. It was her voice that led her to travel across the country and out towards distant lands that many of us can only hope to see. So, in honor of Maya Angelou’s birthday, I decided to highlight a few of the many places that Dr. Angelou visited. Here are the romantic getaways dedicated to Maya Angelou, the Traveler...let’s get started!

St. Louis, Missouri.

Visit Dr. Angelou’s birthplace and home of her Walk of Fame Star while vacationing at the luxe Beall Mansion! {Sources}

Arkansas.

Dr. Angelou also lived in Arkansas, home of the historic Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock and the award-winning Lookout Point Lakeside Inn in Hot Springs, where couples can enjoy tranquility from beautiful Lake Hamilton! {Sources}

Ghana.

Dr. Angelou eventually joined W.E.B. Dubois and other Americans in a home away from home...Ghana! It was there that she became an administrator at the University of Ghana, eventually earning the honor of a national stamp! Couples traveling to Accra will find the multi award-winning luxury boutique hotel, Villa Monticello also a "home away from home." This 16 suite luxury getaway is a favorite among travelers for its food, beautiful accommodations, and personal service. From wine tastings, to surfing, and even golf, romance and adventure awaits you in 🇬🇭! {Sources}

Hope you enjoyed today’s travel destinations! There are more wonderful places that Dr. Maya Angelou traveled to, so I’ll probably do a Part 2 next week. Until then, Happy travels!

{Side note: The quote, “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song” is not a Maya Angelou original quote, but she used it several times in interviews as context for her famed autobiography, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” and, therefore, is still attributed to her as an authentic quote.}
