Automobiles are an integral part of our way of life. We use them to go from one place to another, to haul our belongings and to quickly cover long distances. However not all car are the same. Some of are better than others as they are manufactured by some of the world’s best automotive companies. Here are the largest and most successful car makers on Earth.

Suzuki Motor Corporation

Founded in 1909 as Suzuki Loom Works, this Japanese automotive companies is one of the largest in the world. It specialises in the production of the all-terrain vehicles, motorcycle, and four-wheel drive vehicles. The Suzuki Motor Corporation has over 45.000 workers and about 35 manufacturing facilities which are located in 23 countries. The company has official representatives in 192 countries and sales at estimate of 3 million units on a yearly basis. Suzuki is also known for making top quality outboard marine engines and wheelchairs. Some of the company’s most successful car models are the SX4, Ignis, Vitara and Swift. The Hayabusa is Suzuki’s most notable motorcycle model and is one of the fastest motorcycles to ever be produced as it can reach a top speed of 194 miles per hour (312 kilometres per hour). -

Toyota Motor Corporation

This automotive company was established in 1937 and since then has become one of the largest car makers on Earth. It has over 335.000 employees and is the 13th largest company in the world by revenue. It produces over 10 million vehicles per year and is presently one of Japan’s most important and profitable companies. The Toyota Motor Corporation makes vehicles under five different brands:

It is also a global leader in the sales of hybrid electric vehicles as it was one of the first car makers in the world to encourage the development and production of environmentally-friendly automobiles. As of date, the Prius is one of the company’s most successful models. Other notable Toyota models are Avensis, Corolla, Land Cruiser, Yaris, Highlander, RAV4, Tundra and more. The company being one of the largest automobile conglomerates in the world it also holds stakes in several other car marking firms, including 16.1% of Subaru which is manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries.

Groupe PSA

Also known as PSA Peugeot Citroën, this French automotive company is the 2nd largest Europe-based car market and the 9th largest in the world in term of unit production. The company is headquartered in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, on 75 avenue de la Grande Armeé and was founded in 1976. It produces vehicles under the brands of Peugeot, DS Automobiles and Citroën. Groupe PSA has an estimate of 185.000 workers and manufactures approximately 3 million units on a yearly basis. Among the company’s most notable models are Peugeot 504, Citroën GS, Citroën CX, Peugeot 405, Citroën XM, Peugeot 307, and Peugeot 308. All these vehicles have won the European Car of the Year Award.


Credited to be the world’s largest automotive conglomerate, Volkswagen is a German car making company which was founded in 1937. It has over 600.000 employees and manufactured over ten million units on an annual basis. The company owns several internationally known automobile brands such as Audi, Bentley Motors, SEAT, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Škoda and of course Volkswagen. It also produces some of the finest commercial vehicles in the world under the brands of MAN, Scania, Navistar International and Volkswagen. Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

Established as Hamamatsu during the mid-1940s, the Honda is currently a global leader in the automotive industry. In 1986, it became the first Japanese automaker to release a dedicate luxury brand, Acura. Aside of manufacturing top tier automobiles, the company also specialises in the production of motorcycles (largest motorcycle manufacturer on Earth since 1959), aircrafts and power tools. It has almost 200.000 employees and makes over four million vehicles annually. The Civic, Accord, NSX, CR-V, Jazz, Valkyrie, NX250, Fury and Deauville are only a few of Honda’s most successful and well-known automobile and motorcycle models.

Daimler AG

Daimler AG is perhaps the world’s most famous automaker as it produces one of the most luxurious cars in history, the Mercedes-Benz. The company was founded in 1926 with the merger of Benz & Company (1883–1926) and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft AG (1890–1926). At the time is was known as Daimler-Benz AG. In 1998, the company changed its name to DaimlerChrysler AG. However in 2007, it was once again renamed to Daimler AG. It has over 280.000 workers and sales an estimate of 3 million vehicles on a yearly basis. Other known brands which are owned by Daimler AG are Mercedes-AMG, Smart and Maybach. The company also manufactures high end trucks and vans. Some of Daimler’s most famous models are the Mercedes-Benz SLS, Mercedes-Benz SL 300 also known as the Gullwing, Maybach S-Class, Smart Fortwo, Mercedes-McLaren SLR and more.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

Shortly known as FCA, this Italian-controlled company is the world’s seventh largest auto maker. It operates through two main subsidiaries: FCA Italy formerly known as Fiat Group Automobiles and FCA US formerly known as Chrysler LLC. The company was founded in 2014 with the amalgamation of Fiat and Chrysler. It currently has an estimate of 225.000 employees and sales almost 5 million vehicles per year. Aside of owning the Fiat and Chrysler brands, FCA also owns Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati and Ram. Some of its most praised models are the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, Alfa Romeo MiTo, Dodge Viper, Fiat 500, Fiat Punto, Lancia Delta, Maserati GranTurismo, and Maserati GranCabrio.
