Boruto: 10 Ninja With The Most Potential
I’ve been a Naruto fan for a long time, and when they kicked off his son Boruto’s adventure I was excited to say the least. While the show has been slow to build up, we’ve gotten some great action recently along with additional character development in both the manga and anime; with that being said I felt it was time I do my own list of ninja with the most potential. This list was hard to compile not only because we’ve seen the strengths of only a handful of the characters, but also because of the speculative nature of this list. While envisioning the potential of these characters I tried to account for things they possess genetically and the natural progression of skills they already have; that means this list won’t contain fantasies about possible jinchuuriki or Sage of Six Paths chakra. That also means abilities we don’t quite understand, like Boruto’s Jogan Eye and Karma seal may be underrated while intelligence and political influence is up there with strength; once we get into the next phase of the anime and as the manga escalates I’m sure we’ll be able to revise this into a “Strongest Ninja in Boruto” list.
Ok, let’s get started. Fellow Naruto fans please don’t kill me:
10. Kagura Karatachi

Kagura doesn’t appear this low on this because he’s particularly weaker than anyone above him, but instead because we have a better idea about his ceiling as a shinobi. A respected chunin at the beginning of the series, Kagura has already gifted the sword Hiramekarei which is the most versatile of the Seven Ninja Blades of the Hidden Mist. His blood lust is shown to be a power in it’s own right since he can barely unsheathe a traditional blade with feeling an intense rage, believed to be tied to his relation to the 4th Mizukage Yagura Karatachi. Oh, did we mention he’s already been tapped to become the 7th Mizukage? The only reason he’s on a potential list is because of his relative youth and the fact that he could show new feats in the future as Mizukage.
9. Inojin Yamanaka

I was on the fence about having Inojin higher on this list but I think the #9 spot is perfect. To his merit Inojin was the most skilled Academy student regarding ninjutsu; he was able to use Super Beast Scroll and also attempted to learn his clan’s secret ninjutsu. The reason he comes in so low on this list is despite his high potential the way his abilities will develop are something that we can’t really project. Will he master some sort of combination ninjutsu that allows his Super Beast Scrolls to attack using his mind? Will he take the Super Beast Scroll to another level without using the Yamanaka Clan’s traditional ninjutsu? Regardless of where he ends up, his inclusion in the Ino-Shika-Cho formation and dual abilities make him a shinobi to watch for as the overall plot of the anime and manga develop.
8. Cho Cho Akimichi

I’m going to get a lot of hate for having her this low but you’ll notice there’s a running trend among a lot of ninja outside of my Top 5; it’s either hard to get a grasp on where their powers could go or we already have a general idea of the characters limits. Because of our experience with the Akimichi Clan jutsu, we could say the latter for Cho Cho. Already the physically strongest of her entire class, Cho Cho has added the Akimichi Butterfly Mode to her skills; though she hasn’t attained the increased physical prowess one can assume a kunoichi as gifted as Cho Cho will eventually add these skills. She’s on a list for most potential because there is a possibility she could improve on her clans technique, along with if her mother has trained her in the Hidden Cloud’s kenjutsu. That’s so speculative though I can’t use it to push her higher on the list, because as far as we know Butterfly Mode is the peak of the Akimichi power.
7. Himawari Uzumaki

Here’s where people will want to beat me to death with bound encyclopedia’s but I don’t particularly care, Himawari Uzumaki is going on this list. My reasoning for the 7 spot is simple. She’s not a ninja at all yet, but her upside is so ridiculous I’ll feel like an idiot later if she becomes an important character. Though we haven’t seen her use it at will, her Byakugan is active and she’s related to some of it’s best users; between her aunt and mother she could be trained to master her dojutsu. Another weapon is her Uzumaki chakra, and not just in terms of it’s vast stores. Evidence from Kushina Uzumaki and Karin’s appearances in Shippuden prove that Uzumaki women at least have access to the Adamantine Sealing Chains; for those of you unfamiliar these were used to restrain the Nine Tails while he was sealed. If these abilities also manifest we could be looking at a huge player down the line.
6. Shikadai Nara

If you’ve made it this far you’ve seen me talk a lot about physical potential; Shikadai is here for his mind and his bloodline. We all know of the Nara clan as being full of master strategists and quick thinkers, however Shikadai has something that could put him head and shoulders above all the others who have been head of or heirs to the Nara Clan; Shikadai is a blood relative of the Kazekage. What do these politics matter in a world where the ninja have progressed to fighting alien deities? Remember that early in the anime during the school trip to the Land of Water a meeting was held between jonin of the Leaf and the former Mizukage. There is tension brewing, and while it seems to be taking a back seat the point remains that human politics are still very part of the ninja world. Brain may have to conquer brawn at some point and Shikadai could very well be at the center.
5. Metal Lee

Few ninja have their path laid out as squarely before them as Metal Lee; learn the Eight Gates and proceed to beat the living crap out of anything in front of you. Had this been written two weeks ago Metal would be much lower but he’s conquered his anxiety and is on to learning the aforementioned Eight Gates. As Metal’s body is without the damage that was suffered by his father during the original Chunin Exams, the younger Lee should be able to reach the 7th and even 8th Gates. If the primary antagonists are Otsutsuki or Otsutsuki affiliated there could be a need for taijutsu specialists, giving Metal a huge role in the future of the series.
4. Shinki

I agonized over the #4-#3-#2 spots, but I’ve come to a conclusion: Shinki will be #4 because there is no way the writers are letting anyone surpass a Team 7 member. That being said, like Kagura and Shikadai, Shinki will be of political significance as the Shinobi World develops and he is among the strongest members of his village. Wielding the Iron Sand, while I doubt he surpasses former jinchuuriki Gaara in terms of raw power he could surpass his adopted father in skill. One could say he’s surpassed Gaara at his age, showing more skill and dexterity than his predecessor; a kekkei genkai user in peace times surely has more time to develop their talents, especially with a Kage as their sensei. After witnessing Boruto save the world following the Chunin Exams Shinki is sure to become more driven in his pursuit of power and honor for the Village Hidden In The Sand.
#3 Boruto Uzumaki

Before you come in my mentions with pitchforks and torches let’s be clear; I think Boruto is going to end up being the strongest ninja of all time. It’s his show after all, and he gets all the cool secret abilities no one understands…. and that’s the point.
In Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden we understood what a Tailed Beast was for the most part, and that they were a power source and a living entity themselves. If any of you really understand Jogan, Karma and what they do I’ll edit my list right now. But for now, we know Boruto can track negative chakra, see between dimensions and absorb ninjutsu. REALLY cool powers, but not enough to put him above the two ahead of him. While his Vanishing Rasengan is cool, it doesn’t have a practical one on one combat application yet due to the time it takes to gather chakra. He also doesn’t have the reserve of Tailed Beast powers to use high chakra techniques, and we know from the show’s history that his Lightning Nature uses a LOT of chakra. Until they develop his skills, he’ll sit comfortably at number 3.
2. Mitsuki

Some are going to be upset because of the parameters I set for other Shinobi; Cho Cho and Kagura were low on this list because we’re already aware of their skills. But we don’t REALLY understand Mitsuki’s ceiling. While we did see Kabuto use the Dragon Sage mode in the Fourth Great Shinobi World War we didn’t see it’s full potential; Kabuto is more of a bookish type who gained a new power, while Mitsuki is a bad ass all the way around. His Dragon Sage Mode also appears to be different, and intelligence in the field is way beyond his years; I anticipate it’s full debut to be incredible as it’s teased too hard to not pay off.
- Sarada Uchiha

You guys saw this coming, but hear me out on this: outside of Boruto himself, Sarada has the best chance of becoming the strongest ninja ever. While I don’t see her gaining the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, because Ninja World hates Uchiha being happy she will obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan. The only question is, can she master the 100 Healings Jutsu? If she can master this jutsu she won’t need to use it to heal her own body, just her eyes to reverse the effects of the Mangekyou Sharingan. Any consequences are unknown, but it can’t be as severe as when Tsunade uses it to pull a Susan’oo blade out of her stomach and keep fighting, right? I also can’t forget Sakura’s potential to learn genjutsu as noted by Kakashi in Part I, and the fact that she is related to Itachi Uchiha who was among the strongest genjutsu users in the Leaf’s history; it’s also implied her grandfather Fugaku Uchiha is excellent at genjutsu as well.
