I’m going to have to disagree with the lack of travel devices bullet point. By not carrying this, you may fall under additional scrutiny, yes. You will not be arrested however. More likely, they will simply ask you to access your social media accounts for them. As a US citizen, I have not received additional scrutiny for not having devices. A refugee, or other individual not traveling from a flagged country will also not likely receive additional scrutiny for this. If it is reasonably likely that you’re too poor to afford an electronic device, you will not be flagged. If your a oil mogul from Saudi Arabia, they will probably look at you twice.
That being said, if you are a cyber criminal, and have incriminating evidence on your smart phone or social media account, you’ve already failed opsec. Likewise, if you are a terrorist, and carry your isis phone with you to the airport, thank you for your service to our country. Compartmentalization is key to opsec. If you can’t take even the simplest steps to secure your operation, maybe the smuggling business isn’t for you.
