The Dangers of Politics in the Workplace

Allowing Politics at Work Can Kill Morale and Ruin Your Business

The political climate has changed here in the United States. Our society has been working to stamp out bullying. Still, this tool of intimidation is all too often used in politics to subdue those with whom we don’t see eye to eye. Opinions have become more divisive and aggressive.

Now it has entered the workplace, and businesses are jumping in. However, this could undermine the critical social order and adversely affect our economy.

What Do We Expect at Work?

There are certain expectations we have for our careers and where we work. We want to get paid, to have jobs in a field we hopefully enjoy, and to progress and, preferably, retire. There is another expectation that is just as important. You, however, won’t find it listed in the job description. And, until recently, it was rarely talked about. We want our place of work to be a safe space.

A safe space is more than just personal safety. This kind of safety has been a public concern for a long time. As I have experience working in manufacturing, I can say companies take employee safety seriously. The government even has an agency called OSHA to oversee and enforce it. The safe space I’m talking about is more emotional and mental safety.
