Carcinoma, stained

Someone, elsewhere, colours you —
applying haematoxylin
and Milner’s violet.

Someone else, examines you —
bright-field, 120 power,
cell by violet cell
searching for
unnameable.

Here the skewed
nuclei
Here the growth
unchecked
Here the lump
trisected
scrutinised.

Someone, perhaps
less than a mile away,

fixes:
-their piece of you
-their morning tea

and is staining
- cells
- the future —
which way its going to be.
