So I hear what you are saying about being indecisive recommending your best. If you are like me, that ambivalence does not, however, apply to recommending others work.

Exactly. When we respond, we respond for ourselves. But when we “select our best” we have bear all in mind. And people have very different tastes and interests. And that makes it inherently more difficult.

People good at this selecting and weighing used to work as editors and publishers, I wonder what the future holds for them.
