Amy Nguyen is into diversity recruiting…

Today, I read this a GREAT post by Amy, Your Culture Has Consequences, regarding recruiting and what is currently referred to as diversity hiring in the tech industry.
She is soooo on it.
Her list of questions to ask your interviewer is a great place to start if you’re looking to see if any given company you’re considering joining is focusing on building a diverse workforce. Her focus on questions about recruiting metrics is key. It’s a huge, positive signal that any startup is tracking these metrics at employee #10 or even at #50.
If I were interviewing her, I would ask her a follow-up or two about what she would do to bring more female engineers, people of color, etc. onto the team in the first six months after she joined the team. And I would listen very, very closely.
In fact, it might be good to ask all the people you try to bring onto your engineering team this question. After all, every Engineer you hire at your startup should be a diversity-focused recruiter.
