Amazing Spots in Byron Bay That You Didn’t Know About

Visitors to Byron Bay often gravitate towards the city centre and it’s beautiful beaches, but little do they know that they are missing some incredible spots a little further out of town.

Cumbebin Wetlands Boardwalk
Just a short 10-minute walk from Byron CBD, the Cumbebin Wetlands Boardwalk is perfect for an afternoon stroll or picnic. Thanks to some generous volunteers, the area has been transformed from a wasteland into a haven for birdlife and frogs.

Protestors Falls
Protestors put a halt to logging operations along Terania Creek in 1979 — and for good reason. The place is home to some of Australia’s tallest and most spectacular waterfalls. They lie along the Protestors Falls trail, which is an easy 1.5km walk to and from the Terania Creek picnic area. Get ready to see nature in its most beautiful state.

Belongil Creek
You can launch a kayak near the Belongil Beach Resort and kayak a few kilometres inland, past scenic wetlands and through rural landholdings.

Arakwal National Park
Arakwal is one of New South Wales’ newest national parks. It was opened and dedicated to Arakwal tribal elders in 2001. Walking through the beautiful bush land will lead you to to Tallow Beach. Exercise care if swimming at Tallows, as the beach is unpatrolled and subject to dangerous rips and undercurrents. Opposite the golf course, a bike path also leads through the Arakwal wetlands to another section of Tallow Beach. The wetlands here are at their most scenic after heavy rains.

Weekly Farmer’s Market
The local farmer’s market is held weekly on the Butler St Reserve. Here you will find an abundance of local delicacies, a great social atmosphere and hot coffee to keep you warm in the chilly, early hours of the morning.

Arts and Industry Park
Byron Bay’s Arts and Industry Park is located about 3km east of town. The Arts and Industry Park Guide lists well over 50 creative enterprises with shop fronts in the Park. Their wares are on sale at a fraction of the price you’d pay in Byron’s main street, and are often far more creative and unique.

Find somewhere nice to stay in Byron Bay and take the time to explore all the town and its surrounds have to offer.
