A Whole Lotta Lies (Friendship)

A guy once pretended
To sell me to another
For just a dollar
They laughed in my face
They said they were my friends
We read poetry together
Y’all know them
But don’t know that story
Because it happened to me
But it never really happened
Because I’m not real

A guy called my phone
Calling me Faggot
Over and over again
Until I hung up on him
He didn’t understand
why I was mad
Why would you
Do this to anyone?
Would you say it to my face?
He said I was best friend
Would you ever say this to your
best friend?
We read poetry together
Y’all know him
But don’t know this
Because it happened to me
But it never really happened
Because I’m not real

Someone told my girlfriend
I was a drug addicted
alcoholic manic depressive
And she should leave me
She made me take an
AA Test which came back negative
But she left me all the same
Listening to a woman who
Isn’t a doctor of any kind
Never visited my house
Never knew me
Outside of a poetry reading
Where drink and smoke
Is common as words
Later on she told her that she felt bad
But never apologized to me for it
Yes- we read poetry together
Y’all prolly know her
But don’t know this
Because it happened to me
But it never really happened
Because I’m not real

The same friends who bought and sold me
For a dollar
Also stiffed me on funds
One night after a show
They split the profit between themselves
Noah asked “What about Dave?”
Roger said “Fuck him”
I came out of the bathroom and heard it all
Played dumb and stayed quiet
Because we was friends
Because it happened to me
But it never really happened
Because I’m not real

My girlfriend had my baby
But kept talking to another man
I threatened him to stay away
From my new family
But she got mad at me
And now we don’t talk
I’ve never seen my child grow
She prolly got another dad
I bet she doesn’t even know
Because it happened to me
But it never really happened
Because I’m not real

My cousin sends pics of my baby out
My family adores and loves it
Social media is an engineered nightmare
They call me on the phone
Said she’s gotten so big,
Her beautiful eyes
You must be blessed
And they don’t really know what happened
Because it happened to me
But it never really happened
Because I’m not real
