My Tubefilter Column on Tech Moving Into Hollywood’s Content Game

My latest Tubefilter column is out, looking at all the moves big tech firms Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Facebook and Verizon are making to get into the original content game, and the implications for traditional Hollywood.

Unlike mainline entertainment firms, all these tech companies are using content to make their other products more attractive and “sticky” for consumers. They aren’t at the mercy of a hit-driven business, plus they have deep knowledge of what their audiences are actually watching, something Hollywood hasn’t managed over the past century in any reliable way.

Entertainment companies, meanwhile, are buying into the digital space (Turner’s deal today with Refinery29, instance). Will that keep them relevant and thriving? What do you think?
