Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

One of the types of welding is the Shielded Metal Arc Welding is also known as “SMAW” which the stick in question is always referred to the electrode that is coated in a protecting flux.

In this type of welding the electrode is used to hold the stick in a position into which as electric arc will be created with the help of either the direct or alternating current. This will eventually cause the electrode to make at the same time melting the metals so as to make them join.

The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)

In this type if welding the tungsten is used to create weld. Unlike the Shielded Metal Arc Welding, at the time of welding process the electrode will not be consumed. It will be protected in the weld area which is normally protected by inert gases from atmospheric contamination. Some of the inert gases that are used are Argon or Helium.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)

The Gas Metal Arc Welding also referred to “GMAW” has the property of using a consumable were electrode which is fed through a welding gun. So as to protect the welding puddle, inert shielding gases such as argon or a mixture of the argon gas and carbon dioxide is sprayed over it.

Due to its versatility and its prospective easiness, this type of welding has become the most common welding method that is used in quite a number of industries. However, this type of welding is not very good to use it in outdoors or other areas that has high air volatility.

Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)

This is another common welding process type that is very similar to Gas Metal Arc Welding. It has the feature of using a special tubular wire that is usually filled with flux. The available flux can be enough by itself to protect the whole welding peddle from any contamination. You can also use shielding gas which will depend on filler material to keep the welding puddle free from any contamination.

These types are always used by different manufacturing industries to process materials to finished products. The whole welding process may seem to be simple but it always requires experience so as to come up with quality welding products.
