I made a mistake. I thought that the best thing to do to make a small business work faster and smarter would be to delegate as soon as possible. The reason this is a mistake is that while delegation does get you to the 10x you’re looking for, it cannot be done unless the person you’re delegating work to can make decisions like you would.
This means that before delegation can occur, you need to be sure that you walk the walk, and talk the talk in front of them as they on-board. It isn’t as simple as plugging a warm-body into your group and giving them a load of work. Lead first, ensure that the follower would make the decisions you would make, using the principals and values you espouse, then it’s time to delegate.
