Once there was guy who had a day job but was an artist at heart. He ended up working not only as a creative writer, but giving up his day job to work in arts admin. That’s right, nonprofits. Then the Great Recession hit, and what was hard got harder: fundraising for arts and arts education. Then he started learning the language of business, in the hopes that business might start learning the language of arts and the humanities. Now he’s a crusader for getting corporations, entrepreneurs and small businesses to commit to those practices and values — literature, philosophy, history, the fine arts et al— that can tell them why they get up in the morning, have kids… and make money. He will also tell you, if you ask, why STEM is a buzz acronym starting to eat its own tail, and why STEAM [a=arts/humanities] for ourselves and our youth not only makes sense but will help you make money…honey. This is my story. I invite myself into your world; I welcome you into mine.
