I don’t expect many people will read this slightly technical and obtuse article but that isn’t important. I need to have a serious talk with potential earliest adopters of Project SAFE technology: OSS developers and coders.
This article is specifically written to developers, programmers, coders and anyone else who works on an open-source software (OSS) development team. I’m also writing to everyone who appreciates open-source technology and the people who create such. The rest of you are still welcome to keep reading.
There’s a real challenge, I’m noticing during this “dating” period between OSS & Project SAFE. It’s time to stop flirting with each other and get serious, folks. I hope this article helps to this end.
While I’m quite capable of writing obtusely and in an arcane manner (many of you will have no doubt noticed this by now and may not fully and slowly read all my stuff; I am not offended), no one should think that I understand programming. I am not a hack but I love this world and the people who live and work in it.
In some ways, I admire them the way people should admire under-appreciated, unknown great people. This is not like being a groupie going gaga over rock stars. It’s simply genuine appreciation and absolute awe over capabilities that escape me personally that I will never possess but am smart enough to realize, benefit me tremendously.
In my humdrum job with zero pay being the mild-mannered and very average independent micro-futurist that I happen to be(who has nothing better to do with his time than write an obscure but focused blog to a very small audience where I am doing nothing but obviously evangelizing for MaidSafe), I run into a lot of different attitudes about Project SAFE’s development and how tech-savvy, OSS developers see this curious phenomenon.
I am by no means an expert but more like a mouse in the corner of the room.
I am beginning to talk more and to listen much, much more to future SAFE Network application builders, the coders and developers who will write apps and who traditionally know something about OSS and who may or may not be all that apprised of C++ (perhaps they know a different programming language like C# or Java) or much of anything yet as it applies to Project SAFE and the core work that is progressing behind the scenes that will soon eventually give rise to an operational SAFE Network.
What is evidently clear to me in this present stage of development is how little both sides of this relationship equation seem to know each other. They know of each other or they know about the other but they don’t really know one another very well yet. It’s that early but this can’t be a very good thing as you will see.
Don’t get me wrong, I see interest like when a boy notices a pretty girl and maybe has enough courage to go up and talk to her. This is not a criticism just an analogy of observation that tells us where we are in the courtship.
What needs to occur is a whole lot more conversation. This became evident to me when I recently listened in on the debut hangout of the San Francisco Safe Pod. David Irvine and Viv Rajkumar from MaidSafe attended from Scotland to inaugurate the event and to explain a lot of fairly basic things about MaidSafe and Project SAFE. You should listen to the whole thing (not now) if you have interest in deepening your relationship to Project SAFE. Here’s the link:
Like the proverbially mouse, I sat in my virtual corner here from my living room in Israel. Okay, I did squeak in an early question via the chat and David Irvine did answer it. However, for the remainder of the hangout, I just listened and was amazed by where we actually are right now in our early days of hardly even “dating” one another yet.
It was a bit surprising to find out that my knowledge level was quite high in comparison to the more brilliant minds in the room. Again, this isn’t a criticism but an admission of the facts as I see them and a reality check for interested parties to consider and to consider whether or not they want to do something about it.
We absolutely need developers and coders to come up to speed about Project SAFE just as soon as possible.
You folks are the future of everything good that will come out on the SAFE Network. It’s fairly close to the beta launch (this Fall or at least this year, by most estimates), and WE NEED YOU to learn about MaidSafe right now!
I repeat: spend the time, do your homework and learn about this amazing technology! There’s so much more to MaidSafe than just a pretty face! Okay, I’m sure that Nick Lambert (COO of MaidSafe)is laughing already; they just don’t see themselves this way at all!
But really, get my meaning here. You need to get to know these great guys who have done something great that has never been done before. Okay, forget about the great technology for a moment. How about how they are changing the game entirely for OSS people?
Do you know that? Do you know that you don’t have to give away your talent for free anymore? That there’s a robust way coming for you to earn a serious living or better than this in OSS?
Do you know that if you could see what I see coming that you should get going right away to start earning some SafeCoin just as soon as the network is up and running? You can do this by building apps now! SafeCoin is going to be king of the cryptosphere one day, outstripping You-know-WhoCoin one day. This could really change life as you know it, friend.
Discover why I know what I just said is true. Don’t take my word for it or dismiss it as hype either! Do your own homework and get to know this pretty girl called MaidSafe. She has a brainy brain too!
I just got off a google chat and an earlier skype call with two separate individuals from two separate development teams. One guy is building a meta-app for SAFE Network builders (I’ll be writing about BuiltItHub soon) and the other guy is doing a free speech app called Freedom Pieces. I’m going to be working with both of these guys and I’m not a coder at all. You should hear their excitement! They are so jazzed, you almost have to tie them down!
Those two guys are “getting in bed” with MaidSafe. In fact, Matthew, the guy from Freedom Pieces used that same analogy. Chadrick from BuildItHub sees MaidSafe as the solution he’s been searching for all these years. He’s so happy because he gets it that he’s going to be able to have a really huge impact with Project SAFE. And, he is excited about all the SafeCoin he’s going to be earning too.
Where are you with all of the this, you amazing OSS person, you? Yes, you! You and you and you and you…I’m talking to you! Please, it’s time to become a REAL early adopter. It’s time to ask the pretty girl out on a date. It’s time to get serious with her and try to kiss her. It’s time to get married and go to bed with her, once and for all.
Take the time you need but don’t waste time. There’s no time like the present and our time before launch is running down. We’re in the testnets and when we’re through and we launch the beta, we need you to be ready to launch your great apps on the SAFE Network as soon as possible thereafter or at least to be seriously into development by then.
Everything you need has either been created or is being created. Not everything is neat and tidy. That’s for sure. Be patient with the girl…she’s young, pretty and smart…very smart. That’s why you want to marry her!
