Why I Know it is Possible to Do Anything. Part 2.

I sincerely thank you all for your support on Part 1 of this topic, (Which I would recommend you read if you haven’t so you have some context.) Once you have done that…

I’m stoked to share Part II with you.

The idea behind possibilities is something that I am really passionate about. Because you get to ask yourself “why not?” I’ve learned to embrace this mentality full on. For example: “That day when I decided to run from my doorstep in Queens to the doors of my job in midtown Manhattan. I asked myself “Why not?”

The only reason you wouldn’t try something is because you doubt yourself. We all do it. We all question our abilities. But when you embrace the Why not? mentality, you now have possibility. It’s something I believe a 100% in.

Now…I just want to be clear, believing in something and actually getting something are two different things. Which is why possibility comes…only if you put in the work.

Here is why I KNOW (know, being the keyword here) that it is possible to do anything.

But…the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows -Rocky Balboa

Working hard

I came from a background of my parents telling me I can do ANYTHING. They supported me a 100% whether it be trying a new instrument or allowing me to spend more of my time writing fictitious novels (at least beginnings of fictitious novels) drawing and doodling, anything and everything I’ve ever wanted to try, I did. They always allowed me to tinker. For that I am forever in their debt.

“But…the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows” (Rocky Balboa said this) I also learned another valuable lesson growing up. I learned hard work. My parents were the type of parents that wanted to instill a work ethic into their kids — as a kid I definitely didn’t appreciate that. Believe me, I complained—a lot! But now as an adult I fully appreciate every ounce of time and energy they put into me. I’m a hard working dude.

My list of chores were endless; shoveling our driveway (it was a long a#$ driveway) sometimes more than twice a week, chopping up firewood and stocking our house with it every week and the list goes on…

Besides the chores, I also worked alongside my Dad in construction. At the age of 16 I was his assistant general contractor.

I pulled my weight in lumber, cement, and plywood to realize I NEVER wanted to work in construction.

I love my Dad and I highly admire his work ethic and his generosity. This is not to bash him, the long hours and amount of energy is not what I hated about the work. I just wasn’t happy doing what I was doing. My dad on the other hand studied wood crafting, he worked in the field for years and year and he love(s)d it. But for me, construction wasn’t the answer (good times though) Though, I would much rather spend my time and my energy working on the projects I want to be a part of.

IMAGINE…

You look back on your life and you were upset because you didn’t try to do what you wanted to do. Instead you let it pass, while you continually did something you hated. This would be upsetting to say the least.

Focus on the Possibilities

Bringing this back to possibilities, I don’t think I realized while I was in these moments that there was a way out of this life, I thought I would be stuck doing construction for the rest of my life unless I moved to California...

It’s funny to think back on because, yes I had dreams and I wanted more, but when we are in these situations first hand, we don’t have a lot of clarity on what’s ahead. We tend to lose sight of the aspirations and the possibilities.

I want you to focus on the possibilities. Really focus, and don’t stop.

My solution for staying focused: I came up with a “mission statement” for my life.

Mission Statement: When it comes down to it, I want to make films, create business’ and inspire as many people as I possibly can while being the best person I can possibly be. That’s it.

What do you want to do? Because I guarantee that once you reevaluate your life there are some areas that you aren’t ONE THOUSAND percent passionate about. Get rid of them.

If I won $101 million dollars, I know for a fact that I would not quit my day job. Why? Because I seriously LOVE what I do and that’s the God honest truth. Don’t believe me? Give me $101 million dollars! and I’ll prove it to you.

Anything is possible, if you find something you believe in and put in the hard work.

***Here is something to think about. Are you in a situation where you are stuck? and maybe you can’t see what’s in the future for you, but only what’s ahead of you at this current moment? Is this how you feel? or maybe you are just discouraged? I WANT TO KNOW/

Please tweet me @davidrocknyc or reach out to me somehow with these three answers (take up multiple tweets if you must…I don’t care.) title each answer like (A1) as an answer to question one and so on for the rest!

  1. (A1) Are you feeling stuck?
  2. (A2) What are you trying to focus on?
  3. (A3) What is distracting you?

TWEET ME or I’ll be sad :/
