Review of MapShot iOS App
MapShot functions, but it is not my vision. I see a world where the community’s likes and comments actually make the shot take up X of the map. Every pixel tiling the map should represent the best shot, given location and the user’s zoom.
The algorithm started with an interaction score for every image. As images expand from the actual location of where they were shot, the interaction scores declines. Where images meet was the beauty of it. Where one image ends and another begins should be the veins of our community. I refuse to believe that a visual newsfeed should be single image after single image taking up the entirety of my screen. Images make maps. Images depend on where they are from.
If done right, every zoom would quickly create a beautiful mashup of a location’s best images; if done right, every zoom would quickly create a new piece of crowdsourced art. This early mockup below by my friend Chrisfinity offers a whiff. However the graphical programming became too difficult. My sheer will and limited time/$ only took us so far. I made mistakes. I learned a ton. I made MapShot.
