Documenting the largest coordinated scientific ocean related research endeavor in history

I just returned from a 9 day trip to the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I was working as a cameraman aboard the Masco 8 for a series called Dispatches from the Gulf (produced by Hal and Marilyn Weiner).

It was a real treat to shoot for them and document the CARTHE Research science team in action. The research that the teams were conducting will play an integral part of the unprecedented response effort that has become the largest, coordinated scientific research endeavor around an ocean-related event in history — orchestrated through the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI). http://gulfresearchinitiative.org/

The voyage was exciting, the Gulf of Mexico made the work challenging, and the research was nothing short of fascinating! More information about the scientists is at http://carthe.org/. Be sure to follow thier progress on the LASER experiement this summer at https://twitter.com/CARTHEresearch and https://www.facebook.com/CARTHE.GoMRI

More about Dispataches from the Gulf can be found on the website at: http://dispatchesfromthegulf.com/ . You can also follow them on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/gulfdispatches and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/gulfdispatches. Big thanks to my friend Bill Mills for recommending me to join the crew.

I can’t wait to do it again!
