Introduction to UI/UX with Figma
As the Ingressive Campus Ambassador, I have to strive to make my community better either with the skills I possess or one that I don't. We are also trained to delegate whiles we can.
I have had a long desire to see students coming up with a good UI/UX skills for a very long time even prior to becoming an Ingressive Campus Ambassador.
So on 4th January, I set a meeting with the Figma Africa Ambassador for Accra and a UI/UX Designer Joseph Kiipo to discuss how he can help make my long desire a success.
After the end of the meeting, we were both certain to set agree on a date for the training.
Three weeks after our meeting, we set a date from 9th to 10th March 2019 for the event.
On 9th March 2019, Joseph arrived from Accra to Navrongo for the event to kick off in the evening 7:00 pm and closed at 10:00 pm for day one.
Day one was successful, students were introduced to a lot of design concept and in particular UI Designs. They were oriented on the Figma only design tool and at the end, a challenge was given to the students to get it done and present in day 2 that was Sunday 10th March 2019.
DAY TWO OF THE INTRODUCTION TO UI/UX DESIGN
Day two was another enjoying moment and not just about the event itself. I arranged a session between Kipo and my LadyProg Program I run on campus so Kiipo was able to have a mentorship session with them because I believed it will inspire them as Joseph Kiipo shares his journey into the design world with them
So official day two session began and students were taking through UX Design. A lot of concepts was taught which include understanding user requirement, using tools like type form, google form to collect data etc. After this session comes Design Hackathon.
Students formed groups to build a project with what was taught from day one and this was quite impressive.
CONCLUSION
The two days with Joseph Kiipo was a memorable day. Student acquired a lot of skills and this surely will always be with them. In total, we recorded 60 students from day one and 47 students from day two.
