Online, we don’t have access to social cues. There’s no one on the receiving end of our jabs and tirades and vitriol. All we see are words on a screen in a text box. Empathy is null and void.

Although, I agree, the online world can be cruel and nasty place, just like the real world, I think, I hope, I am a champion of, and I talk daily to people of all ages about: BEING THE DIGITAL CHANGE. As for lack of social cues online, I consider the comment section to be a form of ‘social cueing’. To be so nasty online the way this man was to your family means, to me anyway, that he must be, at some level, disconnected and disillusioned in the real world , too. I am sorry for your loss.
