Self Love: A Manual

Who reads manuals today?

They come packaged in immaculate bubble wrapping

And zip-locked bags

As if someone would muster the strength

And open them, read them out loud

For a better understanding

And what the machine is all about

Who reads manuals today?

Although they are transcribed

In languages

In symbols

Everyone can decipher

Everyone can get through

Who reads manuals today?

Not our stubborn minds

Bearing so-called self-reliance

Internalising meddling

Ad infinitum

Who reads manuals today?

It is so hard to

So taxing

Especially

If the manual is about self-love

Who reads manuals today?

About self-love

It is as if reading black ink

On a black page

No thoughts, no think

We get enraged

Who reads manuals today?

The self love manual

Is in a language

I don’t understand

It is a struggle to push myself

Out of the darkness and stand

I read the manual today

It suggested I love myself

That we all ought to

But it is the first manual

That doesn’t tell me how

It doesn’t tell my why
