Great post! The Plain Language movement is gaining traction in the U.S., too, and Obama signed the Plain Writing Act into law in 2010 (applies to government agencies) and the CDC and Department of HHS have initiatives based on it. A lot of the major medical schools are on board: UMich, for example, has a Plain Language Medical Dictionary, Duke and UMass have pages on health literacy, etc. These resources aren’t perfect, but it’s progress.
