The Nine Network has confirmed journalist and presenter, Wendy Kingston will join Nine’s Gold Coast News from July 11th.

A local girl, born and raised on the Gold Coast, Wendy Kingston will join Bruce Paige presenting the nightly bulletin.

The announcement comes after last week’s confirmation that Rod Young will present a newly launched Gold Coast News bulletin for the Seven Network from July 4th. The news bulletins from Seven and Nine will compete in the same timeslot with Australia’s sixth largest city becoming the latest news battleground.

Nine will also unveil a new and improved news studio in July, with both networks broadcasting from Surfers Paradise.

Wendy says it’s an exciting time to be joining the team:

“I was born on the Gold Coast, grew up here and went to university here. Now I’m returning to a place where I have so many fond memories I want to share with our three children. There’s no better place to raise a young family.
I’ve been working in Nine’s Sydney newsroom for the past 11 years — most recently on Weekend Today. But the Gold Coast is where my heart is — where my family is.
Now I’m thrilled to sit next to such an icon of Queensland news each weeknight. Bruce Paige is one of the best in the business and we have such a dedicated team of storytellers in the newsroom. I’m looking forward to being part of the next chapter.”

Nine Queensland’s News Director, Mike Dalton is pleased to welcome Wendy to the Gold Coast team:

“She’s a Gold Coast girl through and through and it’s great to see her back home to work alongside Bruce Paige. Wendy knows the issues facing Gold Coast families, her years of national news experience will enhance the way we deliver the news stories our audience needs to know.”

The Nine Network continues to increase its investment on the Gold Coast, building on a 20 year commitment to the Gold Coast city and community.

Nine’s Gold Coast News has been celebrating its 20th year milestone throughout 2016, with the celebrations set to culminate with a one hour documentary special that will air on Nine Gold Coast on Sunday 9th July, at 5.30pm. A look back over the stories that have mattered most to the people of the Gold Coast. We will see the cities growth and expansion and look to the future and all that is ahead for this iconic Australian city.
