Today I attended the volleyball state finals at the Glens Falls Civic Center. I can’t believe how far our girls volleyball team has made it. It was truly incredible to see them as one of the two remaining teams in all of class C battling for the state title.
As they warmed up, they were nothing but smiles. You could just tell how happy they were to be there and how much they loved the game. As the girls took the court to begin the game, the whole crowd was cheering. Parents, classmates, teachers, and people from the community all showed up to support the Lady Patriots. Each one of them looked so proud and so happy that the team had made it this far and they showed that through their cheering. Every time it was our turn to serve, you could count on the crowd to cheer on whoever was serving.
In a lot of games that I've watched, there’s a lot of miscommunication and lack of unity throughout the team. Not with these girls. After every play, good or bad, they would come together as a team to show that it was ok and that they had eachothers’ backs. Even when a mistake was made, you could find Mr. Calvello on the bench smiling at the player, letting them know it was ok. Don’t get me wrong, he yells quite a bit, but he cares about these girls more than anything. It was so amazing to watch such a closely knit team battling for a state title, let alone having them be from my school. Congratulations on an amazing season. We’re all so proud of you.
