During this episode of Deep Dish Conversations, Hendrell Remus, chair of the Tennessee State democratic party, covers a wide variety of sensitive topics and issues surrounding both Nashville and Tennessee as a whole. Remus first discusses the message of hope that the Tennessee Three delivered throughout the controversies of the past year,

“Having the Tennessee Three stand up showed a sense of courage and not cowardice; they wanted to stand up for people, and it highlighted what politics should be about.”

Remus further discusses the tension between the Republican and Democratic parties, stating that while the opposing parties can work together on smaller issues, the opportunity to work together on larger, more controversial issues is unlikely due to conflicting values. Remus states,

“I don’t think it is as important to try to reach across the aisle and compromise our values as it is to stand up and do what’s right when we know it’s going to move the needle in the right direction for people.”

Remus continues the interview by discussing the upcoming presidential election. He admits his concern for the country in the event that one of the Republican candidates wins the election,
