I personally think most people lack the “Principle of Charity” which for anyone not familiar is a term used in philosophy and rhetoric, means assuming that the speaker intended the best, most rational possible interpretation. If you apply that kind of thinking to all writing you encounter you are less likely to assume ill intent when it is satire, and less likely to apply your own bias to a text. (Less likely not immune mind)
Of course making sure you keep your critical thinking caps on these days is crucial, it is easy to come across news that LOOKS like satire and is sadly real.
