Make TODAY the Day to Change!
If you’re waiting for the right time to make a change, this is it. When we’re looking for an excuse to put off our actions, we will always be able to find one. The truth is, everyone is busy, and everyone has things to do. There is one main difference between those who are successful at improving their health and those that are still sitting on the coach. Successful people don’t make excuses, they take action!
Change can be intimidating and a lot of times we like to put difficult tasks on the back-burner and hope that it won’t boil over. We’ve all been there, we’ve put off something because it isn’t convenient, or it makes us uncomfortable. Telling ourselves, “I’ll do it tomorrow,” we allow ourselves to remain in an unhealthy state and promise that “after this next week, it’s time to buckle down!” We try to rationalize to ourselves, “Once my children are in school I will start.” The truth is there will never be a perfect time. You must make yourself a priority.
The harsh reality is if you don’t take care of yourself, who will take care of your family? Stop and think about this. Where would your family be if they didn’t have you in their life? Often times we get caught-up in taking care of everyone else’s needs that ours get placed on that back-burner. You owe it to yourself and your family to take the time to focus on improving your health mentally, emotionally and physically. Be proactive. Don’t let things get to the point of boiling over before you decide to make a change!
Change is typically never a linear process. We take a few steps forward and a couple steps back. With persistence comes success. If you’re overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, there is nothing wrong with asking for help. Fitness professionals such as personal trainers and registered dieticians are a great place to start. Also, there is a whole field of psychology dedicated towards helping individuals to make a lasting lifestyle change, wellness coaching.
Wellness coaches are trained in the psychology of behavior changes and how to best guide their clients towards successful healthy habits. Unless an individual is ready to move forward through each stage of change, they will not be successful at maintaining a lasting lifestyle change.
There will always be an excuse to put off the uncomfortable. As difficult as it may be, there is no time like the present to take the first step toward a healthier, happier you. Life cannot be lived sitting on the couch. Stand up and take action. Fight for the things you want out of life. Take advantage of every moment, every day.
Get fit… I dare you!
