ALBANY (Oct. 25, 2017) — The Albany County Legislature starts publicly reviewing the County Executive’s Tentative 2018 Budget at a Audit & Finance Committee meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 25).

The Legislature’s Audit & Finance Committee will convene five times over the next few weeks to comb through budget lines proposed for each County department.

Chaired by Legislator Gary Domalewicz, the Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to conduct a full review of projected revenue in the budget. Four budget sessions are planned to interview department leaders about what’s in the plan. Session one starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. A legislative budget schedule for the Audit & Finance Committee is shown below.

The Albany County Legislature is empowered to inspect — and revise — budgets submitted by the County Executive.

“At a preliminary glance, the 2018 budget looks very favorable,” Chairman Sean E. Ward said. “The Audit & Finance Committee will do a thorough review. I commend the County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and his staff for their hard work.”

The Legislature held a public hearing Tuesday night to accept public comment on the County Executive’s $678 million budget, which falls under the state’s recommended property-tax cap. No one spoke. The Legislature will hold an additional public hearing on Nov. 21 to hear comment on any proposed additions/deletions it makes to the budget.
