Big step for Albany County Nursing Home expansion

From the good news file

ALBANY (Aug. 9, 2017) — Albany County on Aug. 4 received conditional approval to undertake a $60 million renovation and expansion of the Albany County Nursing Home.

The New York State Department of Health granted preliminary approval for Albany County’s application to significantly upgrade and modernize the Albany County Nursing Home through multiple additions and renovations. The County must perform a list of standard contingencies to receive final approval.

Here are four architectural renderings of the project, which calls for building a single-floor addition, remodeling existing resident rooms, upgrading bathrooms, common areas and more. The new space will result in a significant increase in the number of private — or single-bed — rooms for residents, higher bed-occupancy rates and increased revenue reimbursements. The facility in Colonie is licensed for 250 beds. The state would reimburse Albany County for most of the cost.

“This is a real turning point for the Albany County Nursing Home, which has cut expenses and raised revenues to get to this point,” Majority Leader Frank Commisso said. “The Legislature’s Democratic Majority is proud to fulfill our duty by caring for all of Albany County’s residents, including the vulnerable and sick.”
