Report to Legislature on Anaerobic Digester project

Albany County Legislature Chairman Sean E. Ward and Majority Leader Frank Commisso

ALBANY (Aug. 8, 2017) — Timothy Murphy, executive director of the Albany County Water Purification District, will update Legislators and the press on the Albany County Legislature’s plans to develop a Regional Anaerobic Digestion facility with the Saratoga County Sewer District in Menands.

WHEN/WHERE: 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cahill Room at the Harold L. Joyce Albany County Office Building, 112 State St., Albany

WHY: Murphy will discuss significant progress made on a joint plan to build a shared Anaerobic Digester system at the Albany County Wastewater Treatment Plant in Menands. The facility would treat biosolids and organic waste — treated sewage water and leftover food — from the two counties and turn the material into energy to power the plant.

Murphy will discuss the history of the Anaerobic Digester project, its potential impact on landfills and ratepayers in Albany County, and more. He will answer questions about what is the largest project in the district’s nearly 50-year history.

The meeting is expected to last about 20 minutes. Stop by and learn more about an exciting technology with a wide range of impacts.
