ALBANY (Nov. 8, 2017) — The Albany County Legislature’s Democratic Majority has started selling tickets to one of its premier annual fundraising events — the Adopt-A-Family Spaghetti Dinner — which takes a place a month from today on Dec. 8 in the Watervliet Lodge of Elks.

Members of the Democratic Majority have held spaghetti dinner fundraisers for decades to raise money for Albany County’s Adopt-A-Family program, which ensures hundreds of residents are able to experience joy during the Holiday season. We raised enough money from last December’s dinner to purchase toys, coats, blankets and other holiday gifts for more than 110 children, adults and seniors that were part of the Albany County Adopt-A-Family Program.

“For many years, we’ve poured our hearts into the spaghetti dinner because it enables us to help children who otherwise might not receive much during the holidays,” Majority Leader Frank Commisso said. “We’re very thankful for the generosity of those in Albany County.”

This year, the Spaghetti Dinner is 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Elks Lodge at 501 Fourth Ave., Watervliet. Legislator Robert Beston (profile here) will assume his regular position behind the stove to prepare hundreds of pounds of pasta, meatballs and sausage, as well as salads, bread, beverages and dessert. You may dine in the lodge — and be served by Legislature Chairman Sean E. Ward, Majority Leader Commisso, other Legislators and staff - or take meals home for the family.

The suggested donation is $10 a plate. We’re also selling $1 raffle tickets for drawings that will take place at the dinner. All proceeds go toward buying holiday gifts for eligible families in Albany County. Legislators and Majority Office staff donate time to sponsor deserving families from throughout Albany County, and shop exclusively at Albany County establishments for presents that they deliver. As part of the program, the Legislature’s Democratic leadership also deliver holiday surprises each year to residents at the Albany County Nursing Home.

“Last year, we served more than 800 dinners and sold about 1,500 raffle tickets,” Chairman Ward said. “We’d love to set more records this year.”

You may obtain tickets to the dinner by contacting your County Legislator, dropping a note on our Facebook page or the page set up for the event, or calling (518) 447–7117. Checks should be made to “Adopt a Family.”

Thank you for supporting this great program. On behalf of the Legislature’s Democratic Majority and leadership, we wish you a happy and healthy Holiday season.
