‘Twas The Night Before Christmas,

(if it was rewritten for 2016)

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas,
and the house was on silent
no glowing screen from an iPhone, or tablet,
not a notification nor text,
binge watching Netflix was given a rest.

The gluten free cookies and almond milk were waiting by the freshly trimmed tree,
in hopes that Santa Claus would take a picture and tag me.

Everyone was dreaming there wasn’t a peep,
while visions of emojis were dancing in their sleep,
mom in her snuggie and dad in his robe,
were dreaming of dancing round and round in a snow globe.

When out of my bed, I jumped!
I heard the bells and whistles of what I thought was an early
“Merry Christmas!” text,
I grabbed my iPhone to see that no message was left,
I turned on the flash finding my way to the window….

I squinted then gasped

The full moon shimmered and sparkled on the freshly fallen snow,
Gave a look of the sun rising to the mysterious objects below,
the shadows, the shapes,
I read about this in books!
I ran to grab the 1823 version of “Twas The Night Before Christmas” from my nook.
My eyes were in disbelief,
the picture from the book matched the shadows below,
it was a miniature sleigh, eight tiny reindeer and even Rudolph with a glowing nose!

With a quick Google search, to confirm what I read,
in 2.4 seconds I knew it was St. Nick, it wasn’t in my head!

Faster than dial-up internet
he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN! On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONDER on BLITZEN And RUDOLPH with your nose so bright,
Guide us to the roof, to the chimney with your light!”

As falling snow blows and moves through a blizzard in the sky,
Up to the house top, the reindeer flew in a blink of an eye,
with the sleigh full of gadgets and Santa Claus too,
I ran downstairs to the tree to get a better view.

And then, for a moment,
staring at the perfectly lit tree,
I was gazing at the chimney waiting for Santa,
hiding so that he wouldn’t catch me,
I could hear on the roof the prancing and pawing of each little hoof,
Jingles and Bells were echoing above;
I started recording the sound for proof.

But all of a sudden I heard a crash!
It scared me, I dropped my iPhone and broke the glass!
I looked at the tree and there in the glimmering light,
was Santa Claus smiling in delight.

He was dressed all in velvet, the bright red hues, oh what a sight to see
His clothes covered in ashes and soot from the chimney,
a bundle of presents he had tossed on his back,
He was taking a selfie with my gluten free cookies, and hash-tagged #bestsnack !

His eyes — were stars of tinsel that glittered so brightly
His dimples — smirked ever so politely!
His cheeks — were rosy like a plump cherry!
His nose — a button, so cute and merry!
His beard — white as the moon when it shines down on the snow!
His soul and spirit were filling the room with a presence, such a glow!

He was remarkably strong and fit
He must play reindeer games at the gym and lift!
A handsome old fella,
who looks like he doesn’t eat one ounce of mozzarella,
a chiseled face and confident stance,
with a twist of his head, a warm smile, he gave me a quick glance,
the bells from his coat jingled while he danced,

I knew I had nothing to fear,
I silently tweeted a cheer (insert emoji here 🤗👏🏼🎉)

He spoke not a word but began working,
pulling out all the gifts double checking his list and searching,
texting his elves and tagging his location,
filling the stockings and placing presents like a beautiful creation.

He stood back proudly looking at the beauty he left,
taking in the moment, inhaling with a deep breath,
He put his finger on his nose giving a nod goodbye,
And up the chimney, he went before the sun could rise.

He exists,
As generosity, love and kindness are alive
You have everything you need if you just believe.

He jumped in his sleigh, and gave his team the go,
And away they all flew in the soft skylight of the snow,
But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,

He tweeted and shouted out,

Hi sunflowers hope you enjoyed this fun little piece !! 🌻🎄❤️
